Two men were charged on Friday with cutting fiber optic cables that caused widespread internet outages in the San Francisco Bay Area. The outages affected more than 40,000 customers. This is not the first time this year that some form of an infrastructure attack has taken place; in Florida a water treatment plant was attacked in February, a cyberattack on a hospital in the United States caused the hospital to lose access to its electronic health records. The attack disrupted patient care and caused the hospital to have to divert patients to other facilities.
Further, there has been; a cyberattack on a telecommunications company in the United States, a cyberattack on a transportation company in the United States, a cyberattack on a financial institution in the United States, a cyberattack on a government agency in the United States, and a cyberattack on a critical infrastructure company in the United States.
