China and France Settle First Trade in Yuan

China’s national oil company CNOOC and France’s TotalEnergies have completed their first yuan-settled liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade through the Shanghai Petroleum and Natural Gas Exchange, the exchange said on Tuesday (Mar 28). China has placed an emphasis on settling oil and gas trades in yuan in recent years in a bid to establish its currency internationally and to weaken the US dollar’s grip on world trade. This comes after the recent news regarding Saudi Arabia and China in a previous posting.

Forty Dead in Mexico

40 migrants from Central and South America at a migrant detention center in Ciudad Juárez, a Mexican city on the US border are dead. The fire, which broke out late on Monday, was caused by migrants setting fire to mattresses in protest after discovering they would be deported, Mexico’s president said. “They didn’t think that would cause this terrible tragedy,” Andrés Manuel López Obrador told a news conference. He did not provide more details about how so many died.

Saudi Arabia has Joined China-led SCO in Rebuke to US

Saudi Arabia has agreed to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a "dialogue partner.” The development comes after China brokered a peace arrangement between Iran and Saudi Arabia, the conflict that has lasted several years and has often been fought through proxy wars in the middle east. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia’s oil giant Aramco has now also just signed a deal to build a $12.2 billion oil refinery in China. The trouble is that China has extended an invitation for Saudi Arabia to join BRICS, the China-backed counterpart to the West’s G7 Bloc with competing institutions. Should Saudi Arabia join BRICS, it will deal a great blow to the US dollar.
